What Made IC Markets So Successful?

Over the last 10 years I have published a number of articles, interviews and press releases for many companies in the financial services sector. Most of my articles have been published in major newspapers and magazines around the country. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Budzinski, the managing director of one of Australia’s leading CFD and Forex brokers, IC Markets. I quickly realised that their phenomenal growth story was amazing.
After speaking to Andrew for 15 minutes I instantly recognised his passion for finance and drive for success. He explained to me how the company had grown from being a boutique player to one of the leading companies in the financial services sector and how IC Markets aims to revolutionise the industry. He invited me to spend a day in their Sydney office. I fast discovered that their culture was like no other, it felt more like I was in the offices of Google rather than that of a broker. Andrew explained to me that the culture of the company was one of the core reasons for their success; he said “the financial services industry is changing, no longer do bankers wear suits to the office and have finance degrees, the next generation of banker is here, he wears jeans and has a computer science degree”.
Andrew explained to me that the companies constant innovation and desire to be at the forefront of technology has formed the company’s core values, “we are not like any of our peers, we understand financial services, social networking and online marketing, this is one of the reasons we are now a dominant player in the CFD and Forex space on a global scale”.
During my time in their office I quickly realised that it wasn’t only innovation that has been a key driver of the company’s global success but also their client service, “Many online brokers focus too much on innovation and forget about the customer experience” said Andrew, “IC Markets has been able to focus on innovation in addition to ensuring an exceptional customer experience, this is why most of our customers refer their friends and family”.
This phenomenal growth story hasn’t come about with its sacrifices, “In the early days after I would get into the office early work all night, sometimes I would even sleep in the office, but you need to be dedicated to be at the forefront in this highly competitive space”.
